Introduction
The British Embassy in Belgrade is looking for an intern to join their United Kingdom Trade and Investment (UKTI) team.
UKTI in Belgrade helps companies in Britain increase their competitiveness through overseas trade in Serbia. We also offer professional, authoritative and personalised assistance to help companies in Serbia locate and expand in the UK.
The selected intern will have the chance to join a multinational/multicultural environment that will allow him/her to learn and get excellent experience in the UKTI Trade & Investment Department. The main role of the intern will be to work closely in the coordination and delivery of the New Technologies in Education Event in February 2016. This will be a flagship event to be delivered in coordination with the British Council and the wider regional FCO network. The intern will also have access to UK Government formal and informal training opportunities and will be encouraged to make use of the internship to develop a wider set of personal skills.
Main Duties / Responsibilities
- To assist the team with various ad-hoc administrative tasks on a daily basis such as: data entry; book travel and accommodation; prepare the technology for web-conferences; analyse the team’s performance against its targets;
- Research into relevant industrial sectors, and identification of potential customers, business partners, relevant local events and business opportunities for UK firms.
- Research relevant laws, regulations, processes, key ministries and agencies
- A strongly-performing intern will assist in preparation of briefing notes for the British Ambassador and Head of UK Trade and Investment; become involved in preparation of budget returns; and will periodically represent the commercial section at internal embassy meetings.
- A strongly-performing intern will communicate directly with UKTI’s customers; and represent the embassy at events in Serbia.
Required Experience & Skills
- Ability to learn quickly,
- Have a general understanding of the core concepts of international business, economics and public administration.
- Microsoft software Literacy, and able to familiarise themselves quickly with unfamiliar database software.
- Fluency in English and Serbian languages, in oral, aural and written forms. Language ability will be tested at the application and interview stages.

Terms and Conditions
This is an internship placement of 39 h gross per week. The working hours are Monday-Thursday 08.00-16.30h, and Fri 08.00-13.00h.
A supervisor will guide the intern and provide on-the-job training. The internship will offer an opportunity to get
insight into the work of the UKTI team and to learn about Trade and Investment in an international environment.
The British Embassy will offer an internship allowance of € 15 Nett per day at work, during the period of up to 4 months (ending 31st March 2016), payable in Dinars at the corporate rate of exchange. Payment of relevant contributions and tax is subject to the local legal regulations.
The intern will need to arrange and pay for his or her own travel, accommodation, as well as any other costs. The successful internship candidate will be subject to a confirmation of a background check and security clearance. The internship candidate will be subject to the conditions of agreement with the Embassy. Interns are fully responsible for payment of income tax at the legally required rate if applicable to them. Employer is responsible for payment of monthly contributions and tax.
